The beach is a great remedy to stress!
Have you ever spent a day at the beach and come back home feeling relaxed? Well, at least I know I did!
A beach is a time machine. While everyone is lost on all the social media platforms chatting their lives away, the beach is exactly as you remembered it. A shower to rinse the sand off. Sand and the ocean. It’s perfect because, despite the constant disturbance of the modern world, you will instantly de-stress. The dishes that are piled up in the sink will disappear (not literally) but they will, at least, eventually, lose some of their weight.
There is something soothing about the sound of ocean waves, the smell of salt water, and the feeling of warm sand beneath your toes.
Using data from the New Zealand Health Survey, the researchers were able to compare mental-health statistics to where people live.
What they found is that there was no significant benefit for people living near green areas, but there was for people who lived by the water. Even when they broke down demographics by age, sex, and personal income, there was still an improvement in mental health among people close to the ocean.
While it may be unreasonable for some of us to uproot and move to a beach town, prioritizing getting outdoors and connecting with the earth will still help you stay mentally fit.
