XXL - ONE OF THE BIGGEST SESSIONS EVER AT CLOUDBREAK?
The Fiji Islands experienced a great surge of swells throughout May but things have just taken a completely different turn.
A swell XXL is currently touching the archipelago, between 4 to 5 meters of swell with a period varying between 16 and 18 seconds.
Waves of 10 to 15 meters could be observed on spots which do not saturate at this size, like Cloudbreak. So we understand a little better why Kelly Slater decided at the last minute to withdraw from Bali Pro to go surf this swell in Fiji which could well surpass the one of 2012. Saturday the King was already on site to enjoy a "small" warm-up session on the spot of Restaurants.
But that's nothing compared to what happened this Sunday in Cloudbreak with one of the biggest sessions we've ever seen on the spot. Ramon Navarro, also a regular from Fiji, left tow on this bomb only a few hours ago.
"I waited two hours for this wave," Navarro told Surfline. "Kohl Christensen and I were just talking about waiting for a wave like the one Mark Healey had paddled. That's what we did. The wave was so powerful, I just focused to keep a low trajectory."
